8 Ways You Can Help People in Need

There are so many ways to help people in need and make this world better. You can choose ways to give back that best suit you and your skillset. You can also choose who you want to give back to, whether it's to your local community, your social network, Australian charities, or international charities. This article will go over all the ways that you can give back and help people in need.

Donate

Often donating money is the first thing that comes to people's minds when they think about how they can help people in need. For those that are time poor and have ample finances, donating can be one of the easiest ways to give back. However, donating money is not always an option for some.

Volunteering

When donating money is not an option, and you would like to give back more actively, volunteering is a great way to find fulfillment in giving back to your community. Many volunteering opportunities are available such as helping the elderly, supporting children with a caregiver in the criminal justice system, providing meals to the homeless, or even volunteering with the Country Fire Authority (CFA).

Donate Items

Money is not the only thing you can donate. You can donate items. This way can go hand-in-hand with culling household items. Homeless shelters and women’s refuges will often take unused toiletries. Veterinary clinics and animal shelters accept donations of towels and bedding. So, next time you are doing a cull of household items, think about who might benefit from the things before you throw them in the bin.

The Gift of Fundraising

Another way of donating, that has become increasingly popular lately, is nominating a charity for friends to gift donations to instead of giving a traditional birthday present. The gift of fundraising on your birthday is an option available on the social media platform Facebook. There are also many opportunities to fundraise throughout the year by participating in Dry July, Movember, and Worlds Greatest Shave.

Share your Platforms

Helping people in need can be as simple as sharing a cause close to your heart on your social media pages. Helping someone in need today is really at your fingertips. If you have a lot of followers, all you have to do is share your platform. Even just liking a friend or acquaintance's business on Facebook or Instagram is a way of giving back, and it only takes a fraction of your time.

First Aid Apps

We have technological advances to thank for this new way of giving back. Today you can download the GoodSam app that links people qualified in first aid with people experiencing medical emergencies. If you are a paramedic, doctor, qualified first-aider, you can download the app and be helping your neighbours through medical emergencies in no time.

Donate Blood

Another thing that you can donate other than money is your blood. That’s right, the thing we often take for granted and never see is a precious resource, a resource that can save lives. Donating blood is a good way to give back if you are healthy enough to do so and particularly if you have type O negative blood. Every other blood type can receive type O negative blood. You can donate blood every twelve weeks. You may also donate your plasma every week. Biolife Plasma Services, an industry leader in plasma-based therapy, provides compensation to donors, which is a bonus for them. If you want to donate regularly in the future, you can get some Biolife coupons to earn a fair bit of money while helping save lives.

Provide Crisis Counseling

Over 45% of Australians will experience a mental illness in their lifetime. Mental health is a deadly serious issue, with suicide is ranked the 13th leading cause of death in Australia. There are several ways in which you can volunteer to provide crisis counseling to those in need, such as Lifeline. With this option, there will be a requirement for training if you do not have any crisis counseling experience and Lifeline can provide this. However, there will be an out-of-pocket cost involved.

There is no shortage of ways that you can give back and there is no shortage of people in need. The only thing left to do is pick a way to help people in need and show up to do it. Start thinking about the causes closest to your own heart or pick your favourite from the list above and get giving to make this world a better place for all.
