Defer the prize

Top idea: defer the Australian War Memorial’s prize for military history. The judging panel is now redundant. The War Memorial Council has demonstrated backflips previously seen only in the building it faces (ed: parliament, for those playing along at home). Political Correctness has no place at the War Memorial and a governance review is urgent. Chris Masters, Karl James and Denise Carlyon could have that done in a month.

Cartel politics

The major parties have worked together to disadvantage new entrants to the political system, particularly the independents who threaten them. In making Parliament less responsive to the will of the people they confirm for us that politics isn’t working. Unfortunately one of the alternatives on offer at times like this is from the far right and we see that playing out in the current battle over the Liberal party leadership.

Healthy homes

I live in a unit that is very cold. The unit is owned by community housing and built on a concrete slab with tiles and some carpet. Is there anything I can do to change this?

Name withheld

Ed: These tips for renters and for really cold places are from a few years ago, but will hopefully still help you get through the last weeks of cold.
