Less than an hour from the Sydney CBD, the historic Macarthur region is the perfect Australia Day destination for Sydneysiders or those further afield, due to its attractions, eateries, activities and special Australia Day events.

Families can make a day of it as Campbelltown and Camden host family fun events on Saturday, January 26, 2019, including fireworks, carnival rides, jumping castles, free live music, pool inflatables, a waterpark, face painting, petting zoo, koala cupcake making and thong-throwing competitions.

Camden - From 9am to 2pm, Camden’s main street (John St) will be filled with Australiana themed stalls and activities, including free face painting, koala cupcake making workshops, cork hat making, a thong throwing competition, a reptile display, food, beverages and live entertainment including local rock band Mad Rhino. The free event will also include the annual Macarthur Lions Parade from 11.15am.

Campbelltown – The action at Campbelltown’s Koshigaya Park will begin at 2pm, with a kids’ zone - including free face painting, free Aussie craft, a reptile show and whip cracking– running until 6pm. A free community BBQ will be hosted by Ingleburn Rotary, with other tasty treats available for purchase. A carnival with rides and side shows will run throughout the afternoon and evening, and a line-up of local musicians will take the stage, followed by popular Sydney act the Baker Boys Band. The festivities will conclude with a spectacular firework display at 9pm.

Campbelltown’s three public swimming pools will also join in the family fun for the national day, offering half price swim entry, lucky door prizes and giveaways, pool inflatables and jumping castles. The three pools are at Gordon Fetterplace Aquatic Centre in Bradbury, Macquarie Fields Leisure Centre and Eagle Vale Central. The pool inflatables are suitable for children aged between seven and 12.

Campbelltown’s Water Wonderland will be open on Australia Day providing even more family entertainment. Water Wonderland is a fun-filled waterpark located at Bradbury Oval, operating until 28 January, featuring a variety of inflatable water slides and activities as well as food stalls in a fun, carnival-like atmosphere.
