Healthy fun: 5 awesome exercises to do with your dog

Dogs are energetic creatures, and they love to get out and about with their owners for some much-needed exercise! Luckily, most doggos aren’t too hard to please when it comes to enjoying a little outdoors exercise, with most being content just for a walk and a little socialising at the park.

With this in mind, we thought we would share five simple, super fun exercises to enjoy with your dog. You already feed them well, give them plenty of affection and are considering top pet insurance for your pooch, so here are some fun and active ways to keep them healthy:

  1. Jogging

If your dog is like many of the dogs out there that hate being held back on their leash, then perhaps you might want to consider taking it up a notch and jogging with your dog?

Jogging is an incredibly healthy exercise for you and your favourite little friend as well as being something they can easily get excited about. They may be a bit confused by it at first, but if you set a good routine around it then pretty soon it’s likely they will get the hang - and the passion - for the awesome habit of jogging!

  1. Walks

Well, we know dogs love their walks, but it’s important to remember to take them as much as is necessary for them to get the most out of the exercise. Some dogs need daily walks to get the exercise they need and expel the built-up energy that makes them so excited on their walk.

Conversely, some dogs really don’t need to be walked that much at all, but just enough to ensure that they are not ultra couch doggos - this is quite unhealthy!

  1. Bike riding

This healthy habit is typically reserved for well-disciplined doggos who aren’t at risk of running off when you’re cycling and should usually be undertaken in a place where the risk of traffic is low.

But, if you can get your dog to run comfortably and safely alongside you as you ride around the park, you can be sure you’re doing yourself and your dog a huge healthy favour.

  1. Fetch

Doggos also love a good game of fetch, and luckily it is also one of the healthiest activities they can undertake. Fetch forces dogs to use their speed and agility: they simply can’t help themselves but quickly run after the ball or stick, and they are getting a really good workout in the process.

It’s also healthy for you, too, as you can meander around at a leisurely pace as you retrieve and throw the ball for your little doggo.

  1. Swimming

You may be surprised to learn this, but some dogs absolutely love a good swim! Swimming might not seem entirely natural for dogs but it is something that if gently coaxed into they will absolutely love.

Some dogs absolutely revel in the opportunity to jump in the ocean and have a nice swim - it’s just a different experience for them and they really love to do it!

What are your favourite doggo exercises?

See! They are five awesome, easy exercises that you can do with and for your dog. Running, walking, cycling, swimming and playing fetch are all incredibly heart-healthy for your dog, as well as keeping them in good physical condition.

Do you have any doggo exercises that you absolutely love enjoying with your furry friend? Or, are they one of the classics on this list? Either way, dogs love a good play and the more exercise they can get out of it, the better!
