10 Ways To Take Care of Sunburned Skin

Spending time under the sun could be part of your tradition every vacation, say going to the beach or any tropical islands. This could also be part of your daily routine; say you're working outdoor. However, overexposure to the sun can cause sunburn.

Sunburn is skin damage that results from excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays. Symptoms can include the skin becoming red and irritated. In severe cases, it can lead to blistering and peeling of the skin.

You must give proper care to sunburned skin to promote healing and prevent infection. Here are some tips on how you can take care of your sunburned skin:

1. Apply cool compresses.

Applying cool compresses to the sunburned skin can help soothe the pain and inflammation. You can use a clean cloth soaked in cool water or milk. You can also apply a cool, damp cloth soaked in black tea.

2. Take a cool bath or shower.

Taking a cool bath or shower can also help relieve the pain and inflammation associated with sunburn. Adding oatmeal to your bath could also help soothe the skin. However, avoid using soap as it could further dry out and irritate the skin.

3. Moisturize the skin.

After cooling the skin, it is essential to moisturize to help prevent further drying. Choose a light moisturizer that isn't harsh to the skin, as these could help soothe the skin. Avoid using products that contain alcohol, as these could further dry out the skin.

If your face is sunburned, some skincare products like frankincense essential oil can help calm the affected areas of your skin. You might also want to avoid using make-up until the skin has healed. You can apply a light, oil-free moisturizer before applying make-up if really needed.

4. Apply aloe vera.

Aloe vera is used to treat various skin conditions and can effectively treat sunburn. The plant contains compounds that have anti-inflammatory and cooling properties. You can apply aloe vera gel directly to the sunburned skin.

Applying aloe vera to sunburned skin can also help relieve pain and inflammation. Aloe vera contains properties that could help heal the skin. It's also a good idea to keep a small container of aloe vera in your fridge so you can apply it to the skin as soon as possible after being sunburned.

5. Drink plenty of fluids.

Staying hydrated may be one of the most obvious ways to replenish your skin, but it's also essential. When skin is sunburned, your body loses fluids through increased urination and sweating. Drink plenty of water and other fluids like juice and sports drinks to replenish these lost fluids. This will help replace the fluids lost due to sun exposure and heat.

6. Take pain relievers.

Taking ibuprofen or other pain relievers can also help reduce pain and inflammation associated with sunburn. You don't have to worry because taking a pain reliever to ease the pain of sunburn is expert-approved. You only have to make sure to follow the instructions on the label. It's essential to take precautions when taking medicines to avoid adverse effects.

7. Stay out of the sun.

It's vital to stay out of the sun to prevent further skin damage. It would help if you gave your skin some time to heal. This means taking a break from beach trips and outdoor activities. When going outdoors, make sure to wear sunscreen and protective clothing. Wearing a hat and sunglasses can also help protect your skin from the sun. Stay in the shade as much as possible and avoid being in the sun during peak hours.

If you must go out for work, wear loose cool clothing, a hat, or other head covering. Apply sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 to exposed skin.

8. Seek medical help if needed.

If you have severe sunburn, blisters, or other symptoms that make you feel ill, it's best to seek medical help. You might need a prescription for a more potent pain reliever or a topical steroid cream. More severe cases might require oral steroids or hospitalization. Make sure to follow your doctor's instructions on caring for your sunburn.

9. Be patient.

It is essential to be patient when waiting for your sunburn to heal. Don't be tempted to pick at your skin or peel off dead skin cells. This could lead to more irritation and pain. The healing process can take a few days to a week, depending on the severity of the sunburn.

10. Protect your skin in the future.

After your sunburn has healed, it's essential to take steps to protect your skin in the future. If you know you're at risk of getting sunburn, you should always bring your sunscreen, even on cloudy days. It's also good to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated.

Sunburn can be painful and cause skin damage. You or a healthcare professional must give proper care to sunburned skin to promote healing and prevent infection. These are some tips on how to take care of sunburned skin. Following these tips can help you take care of your sunburn and get relief from the pain.
